Dozens of people have died in Guinea following a massive brawl and stampede during a football match, AFP reports.

The tragedy occurred on December 1 in Nzérékoré, Guinea’s second city, during a match in a local football tournament organized in honor of Guinean leader Mamadi Doumbouya. According to an eyewitness, the riots began due to a controversial decision by the referee. After that, angry fans ran onto the field and started a massive brawl that spread from the stadium to the city streets.

According to the source, an angry crowd staged a pogrom and set fire to the local police station. The number of victims is being clarified. According to initial estimates, more than a hundred people could be killed.
