The format of the Champions League may change again. According to The Times, this time the changes should affect the decisive contests of the tournament.
In the near future, viewers may not see the semi-final matches, which consist of two matches. Instead, it was proposed to carry out the last four, as is customary in many basketball championships such as the Euroleague.
This means that the semi-finals and the finals will be played over a week in the same city. At the same time, the 1/2 stage will form a game, and after a few days, the winners of the semi-finals will play a decisive match of the tournament.
The author of the idea to change the format of the playoffs is the Association of European clubs (ECA).
The changes could take effect in 2024/25. Remember that after the tournament will be held according to a new procedure: 36 clubs will participate in a single group round, where the opponent will be determined by the Swiss system.
