According to this indicator, Dnepr-1 surpasses 14 clubs participating in the group stage of the Conference League
In a week, three Ukrainian clubs will start their performances at the group stages of European cup tournaments. Shakhtar will play in the Champions League, Dynamo in the Europa League, Dnipro-1 in the Conference League. Sport Arena decided to find out how competitive Ukrainian teams look in their tournaments, taking as a basis one, albeit not a key, but rather important indicator.
Champions League: club “for 500”
It will be incredibly difficult for Donetsk Shakhtar in the group stage of the Champions League. Not only are the rivals experienced and, with the exception of Leipzig, eminent, but the Pitmen’s squad is one of the cheapest among all the participants. The Pitmen’s roster is estimated at 74 million euros, and this is the smallest figure in the group. Real Madrid squad is worth 787 million, Leipzig – 481 million, Celtic – 99 million.
Moreover, the compositions of only three clubs are estimated cheaper than those of Shakhtar – Copenhagen (70 million), Czech Victoria (24 million) and Israeli Maccabi (18 million). It’s not a joke, but this season even Dinamo Zagreb’s squad is estimated to be higher than the Pitmen’s – 100 million euros.
By the way, if we talk about the Champions League, then only the five already mentioned clubs – Maccabi, Victoria, Copenhagen, Shakhtar and Celtic – did not “hold out” up to 100 million euros in terms of the cost of the composition.
14 clubs – almost half of the group stage participants – have squads worth more than €500m. Manchester City have the most expensive squad at €1.01 billion.
Europa League: Dynamo in trends
Dynamo, whose roster is estimated to be more expensive than Shakhtar’s – at 106 million, is only third in terms of the cost of the composition in its group. More expensive set of players and Rennes (267 million) and Fenerbahce (178 million). But the gap from AEK, whose roster is estimated at only 12 million euros, is impressive.
At the same time, in the Europa League there is a “class” lag behind the Champions League. Only two clubs, Manchester United and Arsenal, can boast of a composition worth 500 million or more euros in the group stage of the tournament. The Devils have the most expensive roster with 743 million, while the Gunners have 647. Next come Roma (402), Monaco (364) and Real Sociedad (352). And only nine participants in the group stage have squads worth more than 200 million euros.
In terms of the cost of the composition, Dynamo surpasses half of the clubs in the group stage – 17 out of 32. The cheapest part of the Finnish HJK – 9 million euros.
Conference League: the four rich and the rest
An even more democratic composition of participants is in the League of Conferences. Only four out of 32 clubs – Villarreal, Nice, Fiorentina and West Ham – have squads worth more than 100 million euros. Two of these four would not be lost in the Europa League with the Champions League: West Ham’s roster is worth 398 million euros, Villarreal – 343 million. The cost of the compositions of Nice – 253 million, Fiorentina – 250 million.
If we talk about the Dnieper-1 quartet, then the Dnipro team is second only to AZ in terms of the cost of the composition – 20 million against 62 million. Apollo’s roster – 16 million, Vaduz – 6 million. And yes, in terms of the cost of the squad at the Dnipro-1 stage, it is in the very middle: the rosters of 15 clubs are evaluated less, the same number of one more, Vienna Austria.
Well, the cheapest roster in the tournament and in general in European competition is the Irish Shamrock Rovers – only three million euros.
