Eintracht Frankfurt and Leipzig enjoy Europa League semi-finals

In the first leg, the two German representatives won, against West Ham United (2-1) and Rangers (1-0), respectively. The rematch will be played next Thursday.

This Thursday they started Keys to the Europa League semi-final the second most relevant UEFA club tournament, and Germany have a positive record, as their teams won the first leg: Eintracht Frankfurt and Leipzig.

Unlike what happens in the Champions League, where the keys to the final were “taken” by England and Spain, in the Europa League, the Bundesliga is strongly present, with two representatives. Frankfurt traveled to London guaranteed to have knocked out Barcelona at Camp Nou in the previous round. This time there was no German invasion in the British capital as the Hammers made sure not to give away the facilities they had in Catalonia.

The visitor quickly took the lead. Barely a minute after the start of the match, Ansgar Knauff opened the account, after an assist from Colombian Rafael Santos Borré. At minute 21, striker Michail Antonio equalized. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp tries to get the ball out, but he does it from inside the goal. In the second half, Eintracht Frankfurt’s second goal came through Japanese Daichi Kamada in the 54th minute. The Japanese converted after a rebound from goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The traditional German team aspires to return to a European final after a long spell. He was champion of the extinct UEFA Cup in 1980, when they beat Borussia Mönchengladbach, which was the first final between Germans.

And maybe it can be repeated this year, because in the other series Leipzig took advantage of it. It cost him against Scottish Rangers, but the Red Bull-owned side won 1-0 late in the game. The goal was converted by Angeliño in the 85th minute.

Despite the fact that the Bundesliga teams have taken advantage of this, the keys are completely open, also considering that the away goal factor no longer works. The rematches will be played next Thursday, May 5. The Europa League final will take place on May 18 at the Sánchez Pizjuán in Seville.
