He will soon leave Donetsk Shakhtar and lead another team. Pitmen head coach Roberto De Zerbi announced this after the end of the friendly match against Hajduk.
According to the specialist, he wanted to continue working in Ukraine, but because of the war, he was not sure if the championship would start. Therefore, he must leave otherwise he will not have time to find a new job before the season starts.
“It was an emotional day, very sad. Because maybe this is my last day as coach of Shakhtar. I talked to everyone: including the players, including the club management. If there is a championship, I want to stay here, but if the opposite is the case happens and without a championship, I want to start a normal life and work more.
And right now there is a big problem – it’s time. Because the championships are coming to an end and the new season is about to begin. Timing is what worries me the most about staying.
Right now, I really don’t think about football, about sports. My decision to stay here if there is a championship does not depend on whether we have a chance to play in competition in Europe or whether we have a strong team to win right away.
It’s very important for me that we all complete this season together, because if I leave the club now, I won’t be able to complete our journey, ”De Zerbi said.
