Perugia, Giannitti: “Inadequate start, we need to find another step”

Sports director Marco Giannitti spoke at a press conference this morning to highlight the team’s current moment.

Director, this was a bad start. Have you given yourself any explanations?

Nobody expected this, especially given the way the defeats came. By all accounts, this is not an adequate departure for Perugia. It is clear that there are many situations to be explored and many solutions that the coach will have to find to give this team a different pace.

What did you like the least?

We started with another technical project. Last year we chose Alvini, who I applaud and who has proven to be a great coach in Serie A, for a technical project of sorts. Then he was named (from the Cremonese nd) and this made us think differently. Seeing that the championship promises to be very difficult, we focused on an experienced and winning techie who knew how to improve the quality of our defense. I have a fantastic group that has shown a sense of belonging. I can understand the difficulties of these guys, I see their suffering, and I am here for them too. Yesterday afternoon we were all together, with the president and the coach, demonstrating that the club is suffering with them. We know that nothing is enough to make a turn, but from today we must change the pace, the coach must find the right suit as soon as possible. The market should not be an alibi, we need a total change.

When certain mistakes are repeated, does this mean that someone is out of shape or is there a psychological factor?

My project, I repeat, began with protection. If he’s in trouble, then the whole team is in trouble. The value of these guys is known, at the moment I do not deny anything, because I am convinced that they are not them. It is better to be silent and, above all, to work.

In particular, what do you need at the moment to stimulate the team?

Football is made up of different dynamics and I think you need a win to generate enthusiasm. I see that the guys have fallen, it’s more of a psychological factor. The technician must find the right solutions. This is not a group that can be thrown out.

Will it be a championship of suffering?

Last year has already passed, we have another technical project. B is all pain, but we must not become discouraged and exalted in accordance with the moments. In any case, the reasons for such a moment must be sought.

It looks like the team is having a hard time absorbing the coach’s ideas.

The coach needs time, but it is also true that this situation is due to the fact that the players are not 100%. It’s normal for the growth process to take longer than expected, but as mentioned, you have to find the right dress.

Why is this team so vulnerable?

In Palermo, we took the field with a head last year. Angela was right, we need to speed up the time to learn the coaching credo. But now we need to look more at the results.

There are two difficult but interesting games on the calendar against Ascoli and Ternana. Could this be the right occasion for the team to show what they’re looking forward to?

We must find our identity, and our main thought is to ensure that we can best express ourselves, even with our minds. We know how excited the fans are for the derby, but I’m focused on what we’re going to do this week to find a team that obviously doesn’t exist yet.

As for the market, can we talk about the correlation between Alvini and the players who came?

No. If a team moves to Serie A, it’s normal that it can change. We thought that these players could help us, and we got them.

Is it possible to make a final assessment?

When you’re faced with a championship restart, you’re trying to bring all the different components together. Unfortunately, the results prove that we are wrong. We tried to put the figures in their places, but the sports manager, who never makes a mistake, won the championship every year. I like to think positively because otherwise I would be a loser. I want to continue believing that this is an important band, but there is a need for change now. I am close to the players, I will never leave them, we take what we have to take and we know what our responsibilities are towards the city. But it is also true that we are one entity that wants only the good of Perugia. We also have to work at night, and we will work, I am convinced that we can change gears.
