The head coach of the Kyiv club spoke about his expectations from the start in the Europa League.

Dynamo is going through a difficult moment. Football players are always under tension because of the war, and the road to the matches is full of great fatigue. Mircea Lucescu, head coach of Dynamo Kyiv, announced this in a press conference before the start of the Europa League.

However, the mentor of the “white-blues” called his players true professionals, able to come together at the right time and bring results.

– After the last defeat in the championship of Ukraine, you said that the morale of your players was depressed. Do you think this will affect the outcome of tomorrow’s match?

– I don’t think it will have an effect on our team. We have professional football players who know how to match matches. There is an important match at the beginning of the European Cup tournament, which both teams want to play at a good level. Last time in Istanbul we played a very good match with a good atmosphere in the stadium, which we look forward to tomorrow.

– Since you played against Fenerbahce in the Champions League qualification, the formation of this team has improved and now they play more effectively. Has the enemy gotten stronger?

– It is not true that Fenerbahce’s formation has changed. In general, it is the same. One of the midfielders – Arao or Yuksek – returned and played three in a line, only now a defensive player was involved in this restructuring. Jesus always used such a method.

It is worth noting that Fenerbahce has done a very good job to sign a number of quality newcomers. Pedro, Enrique are players who are about 30 years old and have a lot of experience in professional football.

– After the match in Dnipro-1, you said that this might be your last game in Dynamo, but you led the team in the next match against Zorya…

– These are emotions, because we live in a very difficult moment. After the match with Zorya, it took us 11 hours to reach Chisinau, from where we flew to Istanbul. A difficult situation, but football allows you to live different experiences. Despite everything, we are preparing for a good match tomorrow.

– In the last four matches you scored two goals and got 11…

– Yes, we had a series of negative results. In the Ukrainian Premier League matches, we had a total advantage over our opponents, but we made mistakes in defense and conceded a very simple goal. The same with Benfica. This happens because the players are constantly focused on the situation in their country, thinking about the safety of their families and children. Now we don’t have a permanent home, we travel from city to city to play. I don’t know where we will be tomorrow. And not easy. However, as I said, we have very good players, so we hope to achieve a positive result in the Europa League.

– Jorge Jesus said that football always gives second chances and Fenerbahce hopes to take advantage of it. What do you think about it?

– Fenerbahce is a high level team with a good squad. The head coach, himself experienced and qualified, did a great job. He knows very well what needs to be done on the field to achieve success. Fenerbahce will be one of the main contenders for the championship in Turkey.

– Do you believe that you will win tomorrow?

– First of all, we have to play. Fenerbahce aims to start the Europa League with a win, as do we. Let’s see how the game is. This applies not only to tomorrow’s match, but also to all future ones in the group. Only in November will we know who will be the winner of the quartet.

It will be remembered that the match in the first round of the group stage of the Europa League Fenerbahce – Dynamo will be held today, September 8, in Istanbul. The match will start at 19:45 Kyiv time.
