Fernando Diniz live a great phase in the Fluminenseand he responded to critics who tend to do some pretty rigorous analysis around his work. Known for having an offensive and different style of play, some point to this ‘difference’ in the coach’s work as the real problem for his lack of titles as a coach.
In an interview with Portugal’s “Expresso” newspaper, Fernando Diniz opened up about the way he thinks about football and his critics. Having a great season under the command of Fluminense, the coach has shown a certain evolution in relation to his former jobs. Even so, he continues to suffer criticism, but that doesn’t stop him from believing in his work methodology.
“You have to have a lot of conviction in what you’re doing, otherwise you’ll stop. I am an example of this. I started in the Third Division of a state here in São Paulo and, since then, everyone has said “this will never work”. It was the thing I heard most my entire life: “This will never work”. “This won’t work”, “this won’t work”, “this won’t work”“, said the Fluminense coach.
“Eventually, when something goes wrong or with a bad result, someone gets up and (says) “didn’t I tell you this wasn’t going to work?”. So, you can’t fight it, do you? that’s what matters, winning the game anyway. If you don’t have a conviction of what you’re doing… we have to be content with the path, with the process of doing it. That way, we’ll reap results, the results are there”followed.
According to him, the title in his coaching career will come at the right time. According to Fernando Diniz, there are other achievements in his career that are just as important as: “I’ve reaped results my entire career. There hasn’t been a big title yet, as people are expecting, but I have many other titles: player recognition and player promotion“.
