The London club are continuing the search for a new head coach after the sacking of German specialist Thomas Tuchel.
According to Dorsett, Brighton gave the Londoners permission to negotiate with Potter. On Wednesday, September 7, Potter, 47, will travel to London for a meeting with Chelsea owner Todd Boweli.
Under Tuchel, Chelsea won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.
