A journalist from “ESPN” was harassed this Thursday, 7, on the outskirts of Maracanã, where he was going to make a live entry to talk about the Libertadores game
This Friday, the 8th, the journalist of “ESPN” Jessica Alves spoke about the harassment he suffered before and during his pre-match coverage, in the surroundings of the Maracanã stadium. Marcelo Benevides Silva was arrested in the act after committing several acts, which were explained by herself, in a statement to the police and in the report published on her personal Instagram account.
The aggressor was accompanied by his son, a minor, with whom he would watch the return game of the Copa Libertadores semifinal, between Flamengo and Velez Sarsfield. In the statement to the police, Jessica said that the acts did not start only when she was on the air, since Marcelo had already cursed and tried to kiss her on the shoulder, more than once.
While it was happening, the journalist’s team, which had Marcelo Bandeira and Andre Luiz, called the individual’s attention to stop attitudes, which did not happen. After having already gone through several embarrassments, the reporter went on the air, with the aggressor behind her jumping and singing along with other flamenguistas. However, while she was talking, Marcelo Benevides kissed her from behind, without consent, and tried to walk away. At that moment, the aforementioned members of the reporting team held him, preventing him from running away until the authorities arrived.
According to the journalist, Marcelo Benevides Silva’s son even apologized for what happened, which made her ask in her report, to leave his family alone during the process. At the moment, the aggressor remains in preventive detention and awaits the next steps of justice.
Check out Jessica’s account, given through her Instagram account:
“It was just a kiss on the cheek. Not. It was not. Before, there was a lot of cursing and harassment because the live took a long time. I asked for calm and for him not to be cursing, he did not need to. The “apologies” came with smoothing the shoulders and a kiss on the spot. I was about to be called to the link and I held the position, there is a logistics that requires concentration. Another attempt at a kiss on the shoulder. I dodged and my camera caught his eye. The last act was the kiss on the cheek. That it could have been in the mouth and it wouldn’t change a thing. I suffered sexual harassment while working and that is a crime. I didn’t want a kiss, I didn’t want affection, I didn’t want to spend 3 hours in a police station. I just wanted to work. The human who did this was with an underage son who apologized to his father. The boy is not to blame, don’t punish his family. I appreciate all the support and affection of my bosses, colleagues, fans, viewers and listeners of ESPN and the LBV. Special thanks to Marcelo Bandeira and Andre Luiz, my team on the agenda. Two men of character, who went after the guy and stayed with me the whole time. Saturday I get married and at the altar I will kiss the man I allowed to do so. I’ll be away from here and the canals for a few days. Thank you all“.
