An amendment was initiated by 5 football clubs of the UPL, which abandoned a single telepool
On the website of the President of Ukraine appeared petition “On vetoing the adopted draft law No. 7719 “On Amending the Law of Ukraine “On Physical Culture and Sports”, prohibiting national associations and leagues from disposing of media rights»
“An amendment was initiated by 5 football clubs of the Ukrainian Premier League, which refused the contract for centralized marketing with a foreign company and broadcast their matches on the 2+2 TV channel. The openly lobbying decision, made in the interests of private football clubs and a private TV channel, applies to all Ukrainian sports and destroys the fundamental principles of the solidarity system in sports.”
“Taking into account the changes, the rights to sell TV broadcasts are transferred from the organizers of the competition to the participants. This destroys the idea of collective selling and the fundamental principle of solidarity that underpins the European model of sport. Large private clubs will get everything, and small clubs will be left with nothing,” the petition reads.
Recall that 317 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada voted for the adoption of amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Physical Culture and Sports” on the delimitation of sports events and competitions.
The bill proposed to amend the Law of Ukraine “On Physical Culture and Sports” in order to distinguish between the concepts of “sporting event” and “sporting competition”, which would allow more transparent determination of the status of the organizer of a sports event and the organizer of a sports competition.
In particular, now a sports club is considered to be the organizer of a sporting event and can transfer the right to cover sports events to the organizers of the competition on a voluntary basis.
The initiative of the deputies was preceded by an appeal by the presidents of Dynamo, Dnepr-1, Metalist, Zarya and Rukh. They stated that the current legal norms are not perfect in terms of determining the right holder of the rights to television broadcasts of football matches and the need to streamline them.
