Athletistic/ Football. Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool after an incredible final season, where Liverpool came closest to winning in every competition they entered, facing a hangover. Newcomers and team leaders are not saving yet.

Although Manchester City won the English title last season and lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, the Reds have had a successful season. In this context, a good transfer campaign took place. Liverpool parted ways with Sadio Mane but signed Darwin Nunez, who on paper was supposed to make the attacking line more powerful. No bigger transfer was planned as Jurgen Klopp was already happy with the existing squad. Unless Fabio Carvalho comes, but the transfer of the young Portuguese was known in winter.

In reality, Liverpool have had a terrible start to the season, apart from winning the FA Super Cup, which, in principle, is treated as a friendly tournament. The English Premier League season started with two draws where, on paper, Liverpool should have taken 6 points – with Crystal Palace and Fulham. In both matches, Jurgen Klopp’s side lacked the strength to play as hard as usual, and the opposition took advantage of that. At the same time, Liverpool had a good chance of finding themselves without any points, at least in one of those games.

Then there was the defeat of “Manchester United”, which started even worse than “Liverpool”. Erik ten Hag dominated the opposition and his team took the first three points of the season. Three games without a win, when your opponents have a machine like Manchester City, that doesn’t bode well. At one point it looked like Klopp had found the right path – 9-0 with Bournemouth and a tough win over Newcastle, who are becoming a very tough opponent. But then there was a faceless draw with Everton and a powerful crack from Napoli, which simply crushed Liverpool in the first round of the Champions League group stage – 4:1.

Between these events, Jurgen Klopp publicly admitted he made a mistake in deciding not to strengthen in the summer transfer window and said the team needed to strengthen the midline. At the end of August, Arthur arrived, who only added depth to the bench.

But Klopp’s problem runs deeper. The main problem for the German coach is his inability to rebuild his own team. Klopp is doing a great job with the foil when he comes in and starts to rebuild someone else’s team for himself and his needs. But with his team already becoming stale, Jurgen faces problems. Partly because he’s too attached to the players. This was noted at Mainz and Borussia. Interestingly, in these clubs the crisis happened in the seventh season, as it is now in Liverpool – Mainz flew to Klopp’s seventh season, Borussia took 7th place despite the fact that the first round ended in the relegation zone.

Now the situation is similar. The leaders have clearly given up. Salah, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Thiago and others look faded which may be a result of Liverpool’s hyperactive play. The leaders simply couldn’t get enough rest, and the newcomers, or rather newcomer Darwin Nunez, started by getting a suspension for several matches – an average start at a new club, when 100 million euros were been given for you.

Does Klopp have to make a decision or will the season 7 syndrome repeat itself?
