The Ukrainian will return to the ring on October 29
Former three-division world champion Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) announced that he would dedicate the fight to Jemaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs) to all Ukrainian people. The Ukrainian will fight his next fight on October 29 at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York.
“I want to dedicate this fight to all my Ukrainian people. I proudly wear the flag every time I step into the ring.”
“I love my sport and I am very happy to be back. My goal is to win the undisputed lightweight title, but I won’t take Jemaine Ortiz lightly. Madison Square Garden and the Hulu Theater at MSG have been special places in my career and I look forward to October 29th when I have more wonderful memories.”
In case of victory, the Ukrainian expects to fight with the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney. It is reported that Haney and his father are interested in fighting Vasily. Before that, the American will have a rematch with former champion George Kambosos Jr. on the night of October 16 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Earlier, Lomachenko was marked by a controversial act in a duel with Richard Commey. Vasily decided to celebrate the victory over the Ghanaians with the flag of his hometown – Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, and not Ukraine.
Lomachenko fought his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision. Subsequently, Vasily could fight with George Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
