Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has stopped blocking the sale of the London football club.

Roman Abramovich seems to have abandoned his policy of preventing the sale of Chelsea. Putin’s oligarch realized he would not receive money from the deal and gave his final consent to the sale. According to Bloomberg, the team will be acquired by a consortium led by billionaire Todd Boel. Moreover, the deal can be officially announced today, on Friday, May 6th.

The sale agreement will be the first step for a consortium to take control of last season’s Champions League winners. After that, the deal will have to be approved by the British government and the English Premier League.

Proceeds from the sale are expected to set a new record for the amount paid and will further surpass the previous record of £ 700m. That’s what the American Glazer family paid for Manchester United in 2005.

Recall that earlier in the media there was information that the only obstacle to the sale was Roman Abramovich. The Russian oligarch reportedly changed his mind about giving all the proceeds to the victims of the war in Ukraine, and decided to keep some of them for himself. However, the club denied this information.

“Mr Abramovich’s intentions to donate funds from the sale of Chelsea to charity have not changed.

Mr. Abramovich did not request any debt to be paid to him – such assumptions are completely untrue – nor is the suggestion that Mr. Abramovich raised the price of the club at the last minute, ”the statement said.

It should be noted that the consortium, which is likely to buy the club, in addition to Boel, includes investment firm Clearlake Capital, Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss and American businessman Mark Walter. Boely and Walter are both owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club.
