The South American national team is suspected of forging the documents of one of the players.

Selection scandal for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ecuador, which plays in the CONMEBOL zone, has been accused of forging the documents of one of the players. A similar exposure of the neighbors was made by the Chile team.

According to The Athletic, the Chileans are asking FIFA to check the registration of Ecuadorian player Byron Castillo. According to them, the Ecuadorian Barcelona football player was born in Colombia, and not in Ecuador, as indicated on his birth certificate.

“The practice of serious and intentional mis -registration of players is unacceptable, especially when it comes to global competition. There must be fair play on and off the field.

There is countless evidence that the player was born in Colombia, in the city of Tumaco, on July 25, 1995, and not on November 10, 1998 in the Ecuadorian city of William Playa, ”the Football Association of Chile said in a statement.

It will be recalled that Ecuador completed the qualification for the World Cup in the CONMEBOL zone in fourth place and received a direct ticket to Qatar. At the same time, Castillo played in both meetings of the Ecuadorians in Chile, ending in a goalless draw and a 2-0 victory.

The Chileans ’calculation is simple – the federation expects Ecuador to be given a forfeit defeat in these matches, thanks to which the team will jump in the final standings from its seventh place to fourth and take Ecuador spot in the World Cup.

We also recall that as a result of the draw for the 2022 World Cup, Ecuador is in Group A along with the teams of Qatar, Senegal, and the Netherlands.
