The deputy could promote a law that allowed clubs to get away from the obligation to join a single telepool
National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption opened a case against the People’s Deputy Grigory Surkis. He is suspected of conflict of interest and lobbying laws in favor of his brother, Dynamo President Igor Surkis.
The NAPC suspects that Hryhoriy Surkis could lobby and personally vote for the draft law on amendments to the Law “On Physical Culture and Sports” despite the conflict of interest. Presumably, the new document allowed Igor Surkis, as the owner of Dynamo and co-owner of a part of the 1 + 1 media group, to earn twice on the sale of television rights to Dynamo matches, ignoring the single TV pool of the UPL.
Recall that 317 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada voted for the adoption of amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Physical Culture and Sports” on the delimitation of sports events and competitions.
The bill proposed to amend the Law of Ukraine “On Physical Culture and Sports” in order to distinguish between the concepts of “sporting event” and “sporting competition”, which would allow more transparent determination of the status of the organizer of a sports event and the organizer of a sports competition.
In particular, now a sports club is considered to be the organizer of a sporting event and can transfer the right to cover sports events to the organizers of the competition on a voluntary basis.
