Araujo to undergo surgery for torn thigh tendon

The defender was injured in the control match between Uruguay and Iran

Defender Barcelona Ronald Araujo endure operation due to rupture of the tendon of the long adductor muscle of the right thigh.

The operation will be carried out on Wednesday 28 September in Turku, Finland. After the surgery is completed, the doctors will make a new statement on the player’s condition.

Recall that Araujo was injured during the control match between Uruguay and Iran (0:1). The player was replaced five minutes after the start of the match.

The estimated return time for the player will be at least six weeks. Thus, the center back will be absent at least until the beginning of November and may not be included in the final application of Uruguay for the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar at the end of the year.

Araujo has made seven appearances in all competitions for Barcelona this season without scoring.

The Catalans are in second place in La Liga. Xavi’s team started the Champions League group stage with three points in two matches.

Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup will play in a quartet with Ghana, South Korea and Portugal. The world championship in Qatar will be held from November 21 to December 18.
