In early March, former Benetton and Renault team principal Flavio Briatore became Formula 1 ambassador, responsible for commercial projects and entertainment. In an interview with Monaco Matin, he spoke about his new job and expectations for the season.
Flavio Briatore: “During the days of the Bahrain Grand Prix I started working as an ambassador for Formula 1, and it seems to me that I have never been away. There are still people here that I know, and they are happy to see me. Now it is my job to help Formula 1 with my experience and knowledge, especially in the areas of sponsorship, commercial projects and entertainment. I have to work with sponsors and promote Grand Prix in new countries.
Stefano Domenicali and I discussed for a long time how I could help him. In Bahrain, we signed the first contract with the international shipping company MSC. This is the first sponsor I have brought into Formula 1.
I once felt a lot of pressure during the race weekend and now I have a quieter job: I have meetings in the office. There is no more adrenaline that I have experienced as a team leader, but it took 22 years – enough! But I am very happy that I work in this organization and that I can help her.
The end of last season was very exciting thanks to the duel between Hamilton and Verstappen. These memories are still fresh in people’s minds. But this season starts even better with both Ferraris ahead! I think it will breathe new life into Formula 1. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz did a great job. I hope we have a great season where Ferrari will dominate. However, winning the title is a different story.”
