The Valdivian closed the tournament which was played in the fifth region with -13, finishing second in the Q-Series for the date of the Korn Ferry Tour which will take place in Santiago.
The Q series of the Astara Chile Classic gets tighter every weekend. The country’s best golfers are vying for a spot in the Korn Ferry Tour event taking place at the end of March in Santiago and with only two dates left to play, there are still six players left with options to earn both invites. Felipe Aguilar is second after his great victory in Santo Domingo.
The experienced national golfer claimed the title at the Open Club de Golf Rocas de Santo Domingo after a strong comeback on the final day. He nailed a round of eight birdies and a single bogey to leave with an overall card of -13 and two strokes ahead of Gustavo Silva, who led until Saturday. Third place goes to Benjamin Saiz-Wenz, with -10.
“I played very well on the green and that made the difference . All the good things I did in the first round made me a “mattress” for the bad things in the second “, explained the Valdivian after his consecration in the fifth region.
This victory in passing helps him climb two positions in the Astara Chile Classic Q-Series, a ranking table that brings together the results of the best golf events in the country. Aguilar, after four tournaments played, is in second place, only behind Gustavo Silva. Of course, there are still two contests to play (including La Serena which offers double points) so the positions could vary a lot.
Following this, Aguilar is clear: “Now my main goal is the Chile Classic, I’m not going to leave Chile until I finish qualifying and see if I’m going to play there. After I will see the calendar in Europe to resume the tour in the DP World Tour ”.
