With Dustin Johnson and Sergio García: the Saudi Super League delivers the list of players for its first tournament

42 golfers will be in attendance at the LIV Invitational in London, the event that will bring the great enemy of the PGA to life and promise to revolutionize the world of golf at the peak of petrodollars. From the North American Tour they have already announced that those who will participate in this new circuit will suffer heavy punishments.

The world of golf is going through a time of change. The arrival of the Saudi Super League is official and the fact that the squad list for its first event has been released has only added fuel to the fire. Among the 42 London LIV attendees are Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood. Five PGA heavyweights.

Some see them as the first insurgents, others as the pioneers who dare to rebel against the PGA and gain the upper hand. The truth is that the arrival of this new Tour, powered by funds from Saudi Arabia will inevitably bring a breath of fresh air to the world of golf.

42 players have already declared that they will start this circuit which has eight tournaments and which will offer a total of 225 million dollars in prize money. Golfers who, if the North American Tour maintains its threats, will no longer be able to compete for the PGA.

Dustin Johnson (former world number one and winner of two major tournaments), Sergio García (former world number 2 and winner of the Masters), Louis Oosthuizen (won the Open in 2010) and Ian Poulter (3 PGA victories and 12 on the European circuit) would be among the victims. There are 26 players in the world top 150.

What was striking was that Phil Mickelson was not on the preliminary list for the tournament . Despite the fact that the southpaw was in favor of this new initiative (which earned him a lot of criticism from the PGA and even the loss of sponsors) he will finally continue in his period of hibernation in world golf.

The first date of LIV Golf will take place between June 9 to 11 at Centurion Golf Club, north London and will be played as a team over three rounds without a pitch. In all will give away $25 million, almost double what the biggest PGA tournament offers . The winner, meanwhile, will take home 4 million, far more than even the most millionaire of the majors (2.7 million).
