The organization of the traditional major has decided to withdraw the exemption that Chilean and Colombian Sebastián Muñoz obtained for their participation in the Presidents Cup, after both joined the Saudi super league.

The differences between the more traditional golf organizations with the LIV added a new chapter, after the Royal and Ancient decided to withdraw the exemption for the British Open organized by Mito Pereira and the Colombian Juan Sebastián Muñoz for their participation in the last Presidents Cup, after the two South American exponents decided to join the Saudi super league.

According to what Golf Channel reports, the two must seek to qualify for the Open by other means, through the existing events in the various circuits that exist in the world. So far, the Asian Tour has been the LIV participants’ favorite for scoring points in the leaderboard. In fact, in recent weeks, Pereira and Joaquín Niemann have produced outstanding performances in Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Precisely, this week, Mito’s debut will be at LIV in Mayakoba, Mexico, in the contest that will kick off the 2023 season. and which will take place between this Friday and Sunday. The Pirque native will be part of the Torque squad, led by Joaco and completed by Muñoz and Spaniard David Puig.

In this way, Mito Pereira’s journey through the PGA ended nearly two years after getting his card thanks to a great performance on the Korn Ferry Tour. In fact, despite the fact that in 2022 he played his rookie season, already in 2021 he managed to play a few tournaments on the North American tour. In this first departure, managed to make two top ten (the Barbasol Championship and the 3M Championship) , gaining great recognition for his quick adaptation to the toughest tour in the world. Then, he made history by being the first Chilean to finish in the top 3 of a majorin the PGA Championship, a contest he missed after an error on the last hole.
