A few days ago, the “Wizard” wanted to forget a tattoo bearing the name of his ex-wife, Daniela Aránguiz, made ten years ago. Samantha Herrera, the tattoo artist who renewed the old ink, told La Tercera what technique she used and how she created the new design for the former footballer.
There are times when people decide to tattoo something with a very precious meaning, be it a design, a legend or a particular date. Within this same group, there are also those who, struck down by a crush and sure of having found eternal love in a partner, decide to have their name tattooed on their skin for the rest of their lives. .
In the future, this idea can become a huge headache. Something like this happened to Jorge Valdivia, who for a decade had impregnated his right arm with the name of his ex-wife, the dancer Daniela Aránguiz, with whom he starred in a series of scandals lately after their breakup.
The “Wizard” isn’t the only one to have gone through this process. Although some people decide to remove tattoos with a laser, in his case he came to the conclusion that the best way to remove his old tattoo that read “Daniela” was to cover it with a new illustration, a technique known in the tattoo world as cover.

The tattoo artist who covered Jorge Valdivia’s tattoo
Samantha Herrera (29), from the Andrómeda Ink Studio, was the artist responsible for giving new air to the ink that Valdivia wore on her skin.
In interview with The third the woman reports that concealments always involve a very complex process, because when it heals, it may happen that the old drawing is still visible.
For the same reason, not all tattoo artists like to do covers.
She tends to be more into creating fine line tattoos, but occasionally agrees to do makeup. cover. To achieve a good result of this type, certain requirements must be met, for example, knowing exactly what the client wants to cover and how old this tattoo is.
“The older it is the better, because as the ink fades it takes on a bluish or greenish hue, so it’s much easier to cover it up. If it’s a year or two old , it’s very short”, emphasizes Samantha.
Seeing the “Wizard” tattoo, the tattoo artist he noticed that it had a bluish color, it was worn and with the lines that said “Daniela” very widened. These are exact signs that a cover easier.
But there was a small problem: the sentence was 8 centimeters wide, so the space was extremely small. This involved limiting the possibilities of possible designs, and Samantha immediately sought to find out what she could do in such a small space.

Previously, the ex-footballer had done another job of cover with Samantha, the result of which left him happy. On this occasion it was he who chose the design, a Joker represented by actor Joaquin Phoenix. However, now he was pinning his hopes on what Samantha thought best for him: she was the one who had chosen the drawing.
“He already knew how I worked, so he gave me absolute freedom to work on the second tattoo. He didn’t tell me what I could cover it with, he said ‘you see what you’re doing , I trust you.’ And it was,” the tattoo artist explains.
Since she had taken a photo of the tattoo that Valdivia wanted to forget, Samantha transferred it to her iPad and started drawing on the image to find a suitable illustration.
“I finally got to one eye because it can be made small and also because it’s horizontal, just the space it had in the triceps. It fits me just enough to be able to cover this tattoo,” says After drawing the eye, he added details and embellishments, allowing him to further hide the damaged tattoo.
The design ready, it only remained to make an appointment to forget this ink on the skin which afflicted the former player. At the end of March, they held two sessions of four hours each, where Samantha managed to erase all traces of the expression “Daniela” in Valdivia’s triceps.
The result
“He was super happy because he didn’t imagine that we weren’t going to see anything in the second session. When we finished, I said to him ‘look at it in the mirror, see what you think about it ‘ and he was amazed, “recalls the tattoo artist. This surprise of the final result was also felt by her, because it is not possible to see practically anything of what was before.
“I don’t do this job every day, but I was able to learn even more about concealment. I had no idea what could go so far, permanently covering up a tattoo is hard. Just the fact of doing it amazes me even, ”concludes the artist.

A few days after the reveal of the new design on Jorge Valdivia’s skin, Aránguiz told the Zona de Estrellas program what he thought of his decision:
“He did me a favor.”
