The brands of cars that we would like to have in Chile, but that we will probably not see…

The MT team has chosen several brands that are present in other latitudes, but which, for various reasons, have very little chance of landing (or re-doing) in Chile.

According to National Automobile Association of Chile an entity that brings together representatives of automotive brands and automotive importers present in the country, more than 70 car brands are sold in the local market which makes Chile in one of the most complete and competitive countries in the world.

In reality there is 1,800 models and versions of light and medium vehicles marketed , which offers a wide and varied offer to Chilean consumers. If we add to this that thanks to the fact that our country has a series of free trade agreements (FTAs) With a large number of countries in the world, this allows lower vehicle costs than those requested in other markets thanks to the fact that we have more than 20 different origins.

So, in our country you can find general, premium, luxury and sports brands. From a Kia Morning (the cheapest zero-mile car in the country, according to the site autofact.cl ) that costs $8,990,000 to an Aston Martin DBX 707, which last year for its market debut cost $385,000.

And despite all this diversity, there are still brands that many fans would love to see on the national streets. And although by direct import one can have any model, here we show you which brands we think could complement the wide range of products in our country.

Bugatti

The French brand Bugatti, founded in 1909 and currently owned by the Volkswagen Group, has the motto “Nothing can be too beautiful, nothing can be too expensive”. It is the most exclusive supercar manufacturer in the world.

He currently owns the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, a model that claims to be the most expensive new car in history. It accredits 1,500 horses and has a cost of 16.5 million euros. Only one unit has been produced, sold since the presentation of the project in 2019.

Bugatti The Black Car

pagani

One of the most exclusive and sought-after boutique brands in the world today is Pagani, an Italian manufacturer of carbon fiber supercars and components, founded in 1992 by Argentinian Horacio Pagani.

The Modena firm began its history as a manufacturer with the Zonda C 12 and was presented in 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show and was manufactured until 2017 at 10 units per year. Today, the star is the Utopia, of which only 99 copies will be manufactured, all already awarded, at a price of more than 2.1 million euros.

Lamborghini

The Italian firm, one of the most recognized supercar brands in the world, was present in Chile for the last decade through Quantum Group (linked to Matías Velasco) and later through Porsche Holding. The Austrian conglomerate has, yes, stopped importing the Sant’Agata Bolognese firm at the end of 2017.

The firm now has three Revuelto, Huracán and Urus models.

Lamborghini

infinity

The luxury firm of Nissan arrived in Chile in 2011 at the hands of the Astara group (formerly SkBergé). However, in August 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, it was reported by Nissan Mexico that Infiniti was leaving its commercial relationship with the Chilean group.

With six models in its current catalog, the Japanese brand seeks to offer performance and luxury in each of its models.

Project Black S

You’re here

It is perhaps the hottest brand in the world, mainly due to its philosophy of electromobility since its foundation in 2003.

The firm led by Elon Musk, has been a headache for traditional brands (generalist and premium) due to its commitment to design and technology and which it manages to capture in each of the models it has in the catalog, which is composed of the S, 3, X and Y.

Tesla has a brand presence in the United States, Canada, Mexico, almost every country in Europe, China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Jordan.

Cadillac

At the beginning of the last decade, the rumor was strong, but finally Cadillac never arrived in Chile and was only studied by General Motors.

It is that the premium firm of the North American conglomerate had, at some point, an interest in arriving in our country, mainly for some products that could be a contribution to the Chevrolet portfolio in Chile. However this never happened.

Today, the firm has five SUVs and three sedans, including the electric Lyriq and Celestiq.

gmc

The luxury division of General Motors, but focused primarily on large SUVs and trucks, is still desired in our country.

Today its flagship product is the Hummer EV, a model available until at least 2024, due to the high demand it has had (100,000 orders) and the excessively slow production rate with which the SUV is made.

Lucid Engine

Lucid Motors (formerly Atieva) is a relatively new company dedicated to making electric cars. Although it was founded in 2007, it wasn’t until 2016 that the first factory was built in Casa Grande, Arizona, which is expected to be able to build up to 130,000 vehicles per year.

It gained notoriety just a few days ago, when its Lucid Air model won the World Luxury Car category at the World Car Awards, the most important in the global industry, ahead of the BMW 7 Series/i7 and the Genesis G90 .

Genesis

Hyundai’s premium brand is about to be sold in the local market. Although at some point these models were seen in the national territory, it was when they were still the top models of the Korean company and not as the company itself.

Genesis, which had an exorbitant development in the North American market, was unable to replicate it in other markets. Today, its range is made up of three sedans and three SUVs and, of course, with electrified variants.

The North Star

Another 100% electric company. Polestar is a performance brand of the Volvo Group, a subsidiary of Geely and headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. In Chile it became known for some sports versions of Volvo called Polestar.

However, in 2017, the Swedish firm decided to become its own brand and focus 100% on electric models, to face Tesla. It now has two models (Polestar 2 and 3) and this week presented the Polestar 4 at the Shanghai Motor Show.
