Charl Schwartzel is crowned champion at LIV Golf in London, the first tournament on the Saudi circuit

The South African posted a -7 card at the Centurion Club and was solid throughout the tournament. The controversial tournament brought in a $25 million jackpot.

The LIV Golf Invitational series in London is here to stay. And in his first event, it was Charl Schwartzel who won the crown in London. The winner of the Augusta Masters in 2011, managed to win the tournament after scoring a card of -7 strokes under par. And it was the strongest of the competition, since he led the first place in the standings from the start.

A 54-hole tournament that had no field and has individual and team rankings. The event also delivered a large sum to distribute: 25 million dollars, four for the winner and three more for the best team. .

Thus, at the Centurion Golf Club in London, Schwartzel managed to lead the victory of the Stingers, the team composed only of South Africans, and supplemented by Louis Osthuizen, Branden Grace and Hennie Du Plessis.

Meanwhile, among the other golf figures who were present, only Dustin Johnson was able to go under par by scoring -1. A Garcia (+6) and Phil Mickelson (+10) couldn’t miss and scored cards of +6 and +10, respectively.

The tournament was marked by controversy. This, because from the beginning that the LIV Golf Invitational Series intends to shape world golf and eventually the PGA, with its regulatory changes and its money. The super league, which is promoted by Saudi Arabia, seeks a paradigm shift from the PGA.

And, as expected, there have already been the first fights between the two tours, after the PGA punished the 17 “rebels” who chose to switch sides and join the Saudi Super League.

In this way, we will have to see how this circuit evolves and the consequences that this has for the PGA, which is on a war footing against the Saudi circuit. A PGA that opted for punishment and retaliation for those who switched to LIV.

Meanwhile, on the new circuit, the number of golfers associated with it continues to grow, as LIV announced the arrival of 2018 Masters winner Patrick Reed, as well as Pat Perez and DeChambeau. Finally, the next tournament will take place from June 30 to July 2, in Portland, United States.
