Niemann and Mito Pereira embark on the Travelers Championship, a tournament with milestones and many lights

The two Chileans will participate in the event which takes place in Cromwell, Connecticut and where they will also be Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, respectively number one and two in the world. Despite the fact that the contest is not one of the highest-grossing ones ($8.3 million to give away), it is a favorite with golfers and fans alike.

The PGA has certain events that have taken on a lot of weight over the years. Tournaments that may not have a great legacy due to history, but are currently among player and fan favorites. In this category between the Travelers Championship, a contest that starts this Thursday and in which Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira are ready to compete .

The TPC River Highlands, in Cromwell, Connecticut will be the course that will host the best golfers in the world. a field that helps players hit long off the tee (Niemann is one of them) and that in 2016 witnessed the lowest round in PGA history . It was Jim Furyk, who on the last day of the Travelers, made a daily card of 58 shots.

But Furyk’s rating (who finished -11 and in fifth place) was not the only highlight of the event that was played out right after the US Open. He is, after the Phoenix Open, the PGA competition that attracts the most public and also one of the players’ favorite tournaments, being awarded twice in the past five years with the Players Choice Awards the prize that golfers bestow on what they consider to be the best event on the calendar.

This is why the set of this edition is full of stars. The most striking, without a doubt the two best golfers of the moment: Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy number one and two in the world.

They are the big favorites in the event, especially after the good feelings they both left at the US Open, where they fought for the major until the last holes on Sunday. Of course, the one who seems best placed according to previous estimates is the European, who a few weeks ago took his 21st Tour victory after winning the Canada Open.

In the case of the Latinos, a total of five will be present, including Mito and Niemann. Chileans will try to improve their feelings in the northern United States , after a US Open that did not end in the best of ways. While Pereira failed to make the cut in Boston, Joaquín was clouded over the past two days and closed the major with a nine-over-par card.

Of course, there are three players who will not be present and who take up some of the attention. The first will be Justin Thomas, who has grown since winning the PGA Championship, but who, after some back problems, finally ended up withdrawing from the event which distributes $8.3 million in prizes.

The other two names that do not appear in the field hide a much more controversial reason. This is Brooks Koepka and Mexican Abraham Ancer, who are the flamboyant signings of LIV Golf and who, along with Bryson DeChambeau, they will make their Saudi league debut on June 30 in Portland.

Three names that make noise, but which fail to eclipse an event where Mito Pereira will enter the game at 8:05 am (Chilean time) accompanied by Matthew NeSmith and Harold Varner III. On the other hand, Niemann will do it at 1:10 p.m. with Keith Mitchell and Kramer Hickok.
