Chilean duo at the PGA: Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira will play the Zurich Classic together

National golfers will play together the only event on the circuit that offers these types of combinations. Ten of the top fifteen players on the planet will be in the tournament.

For the first time in history, two Chileans will play a duo PGA tournament. It will obviously be Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira, who will participate as a duo in the Zurich Classic, the only championship of this format that the most important golf tour in the world has. In New Orleans, they will face nine of the top 15 players on the planet.

New Orleans’ TPC Louisina will host the new edition of the Zurich Classic, the only doubles tournament on the PGA Tour and one of the most entertaining events on the golfing calendar. The one that in this 2022 will have a special flavor for the Chilean public.

And it is that Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira will bring to the field the great friendship they have formed over the years. The organization confirmed the news on Monday afternoon and caused great joy among the national supporters, who will finally be able to see the two Chileans compete side by side. Most likely, the coach of both, Edo Miquel, will also be present at the tournament which begins on April 18.

For Niemann, this will be his first tournament after the 35th position obtained at the Augusta Masters and where he will make his debut as the new number 15 on the planet. Mito, for his part, returns to action after not being able to play the first major of the season by not receiving the invitation. His last tournament had been the Valero Texas Open.

The tournament breakdown consists of two different rounds before the cut. The first is disputed under the best ball format , where each golfer throws their own ball and the team scores the lower of the two. already during on friday the “foursomes” will be played that is to say on the alternating plane.

On Saturday and Sunday they will play with a split system, with one round for each scoring system. Note that to make the cut, the Chileans must be among the 35 best pairs in the competition.

A tournament of the highest level is expected for this edition, since 10 of the 15 best players in the world will be present in New Orleans . Some of the duos that will be in attendance will be Collin Morikawa and Victor Hovland, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman, Sergio García and Tommy Fleetwood, and Ryan Palmer and Scottie Scheffler. The latter recent champion of the Masters of Augusta and number one in the world ranking.

The team that wins the crown will earn 400 FedEx Cup points, plus a two-year exemption from the PGA Tour.
