The national team won on Saturday against Stinger GC and this Sunday they will play for the chance to be champion of the year. If they win, $50 million will be divided among team members.
Joaquin Niemann and Mito Pereira had a positive day on Saturday in the last competition of the year at LIV Golf. This time they have moved to Miami, specifically to Trump National Doral, where they will look to win the biggest prize of the season.
At the start of the weekend, they largely achieved their goal. Torque GC, the team defended by the Chileans, won all the duels against Stinger, a team which only includes South African golfers. First, two individual match play matches took place, where the winner of the hole scores a point, then a foursome, where the other two golfers from each team will alternate their shots in an 18-hole round.
The first face to face pitted Niemann against Luis Oosthuizen. Talagante’s was better and won in three holes. His opponent only made the difference on two points. The Spanish-speaking teams thus dealt the first blow. Then, Colombian Sebastián Muñoz increased the advantage by beating Branden Grace. Finally, Pereira had the Spaniard David Puig as a partner and between them they beat the duo composed of Charl Schwartzel. Over six holes, the Torque team was better, facing four South Africans.
This way they aim for the title on Sunday. On this day, everything will be defined with a normal round of LIV, but where each player’s results will be added up for their teams. The four finalists are: Aces, Crushers, Torque and Ranegoats.
The high amounts to be distributed amount to $50 million in prizes, of which 14 will be awarded to the winning team. This amount is distributed among the team participants, so each of the champions will receive $3.5 million in North American currency. More than the winners of major golf tournaments receive. After finishing their season, Niemann and Pereira embarked for Santiago to compete in the Pan American Games.
