Gold slips away for the Chileans: Niemann and Mito Pereira are eight shots from the lead with only one round to play

The Mexican Abraham Ancer and the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz are in the lead with cards of -16. The Chileans are eight under par.

The third round of Pan American golf is beginning to define the aspirations and realities of Chileans. After a day where they were unable to attack the lead, they remain in 11th place overall and eight shots behind the leaders. Niemann closed those 18 holes with one under par, while Mito Pereira was tied with the field.

Typically, both end up with eight strikes under the court’s requirements. Abraham Ancer (Mexico) and Sebastián Muñoz (Colombia) are in the lead at -16, so with 18 holes remaining the outlook is complex for thinking about gold or silver. Bronze will also be a challenge for the nationals, as the score currently closes at 15 under par.

This situation is mainly explained by the complex day of Saturday, where the Chileans were not able to count many shots on their scoreboard. Mito, for example, was only tied with the pack, after two rounds adding -4 cards. Niemann, on the other hand, only managed to win with one shot on the field, after a -5 on Thursday and a -2 on Friday.

Unlike Niemann, who only played three shots that day, the Pirque native’s round was marked by constant changes. In his first four flags, he added a birdie, a bogey, a birdie and a double bogey respectively. Then he made birdies at nine and ten, only to suffer bogeys at 11 and 12. His final round would come at 14 when he managed to even the score with another putback.

This Sunday, action at Prince Of Wales Country Club wraps up with the final round of Pan American golf. The Chileans must give the best of themselves and bring down the leaders. It’s not impossible, but it is very difficult.
