Golf world alert: Tiger Woods had to pull out of a tournament in Los Angeles because he couldn’t move

The winner of 15 Majors left the Genesis Invitational at Pacific Palisades (PGA) after finishing six holes.

Tiger Woodswinner of fifteen Majors in his career, retired this Friday on the second day of the Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades (California) due to a health problem, and not a physical one, when he had a combined score of two over par in the tournament.

In his first PGA Tour tournament in 2024, Woods completed six holes before announcing his retirement which marked his return to competition after the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in December. Woods had some flu symptoms Thursday night and woke up Friday feeling more tired, according to a statement collected by the PGA.

When competing this Friday, he noticed some dizziness and doctors considered that the American had symptoms of flu and dehydration. Woods is feeling better after receiving medical attention, according to the cited source. Tiger started with a birdie on Friday, before two consecutive bogeys, on the fourth and fifth holes, left him one over par on the second day of the tournament. He started Thursday with one over par, the result of five birdies and six bogeys.

The American underwent surgery in April 2023 for an ankle injury, with which he has been experiencing discomfort since a serious road accident suffered in 2021, but his departure from the Genesis Invitational is not due in this physical problem.

Rob McNamara, a spokesman for the golf legend, said: “He felt a little better during the warm-up, but when he entered the field he started to feel dizzy”. The 48-year-old golfer added: “The last three holes I had back spasms again, things were completely blocked. “I couldn’t move or turn anything.”.

Rickie Fowler, Jason Day and Tony Finau, some of Woods’ teammates, entered the locker room to find out more about the 15-time Major winner golfer’s condition after his unexpected departure from the playing field .

Some local media said that Woods felt his body “fragile”, something that raised alarm bells for him in his first official start in a full event at Pacific’s Genesis Invitational.
