With four consecutive birdies at the close: Mito Pereira takes the lead in Oman

The Chilean golfer has a one-shot advantage after two rounds played. Joaquín Niemann is in 15th place.

The International Series Oman standings show the Chilean flag at the top. Mito Pereira scored -6 in the second round and took the lead in the tournament thanks to a cumulative score of eleven under par, one stroke less than his pursuers. Joaquín Niemann was left behind, but remains in the Top 20 of the Asian Tour event.

And this Friday was a day of changes within the board of directors. On Thursday, the two national golfers started in the best way, finishing with Joaco in second place and Mito in third. Today, after 18 more holes, the Pirque native’s present is even better, remaining alone on the table thanks to a round that ended with four consecutive birdies, reaching -11 after two days of competition. The American Matthew Wolff pursues him in one go.

Joaquín Niemann, on the other hand, could not maintain the level and was tied with the peloton this Friday, significantly reducing his chances of winning a new trophy in recent months. In December he won the Australian Open and two weeks ago he lifted the cup on the first date of the LIV, in Mayakoba, Mexico. In total he walks with -5, in 15th place, tied with nine other golfers.

Other LIV stars who traveled to Oman to get the points they cannot add in the Super League are Mexicans Carlos Ortiz (-8) and Abraham Ancer (-3), South African Louis Oosthuizen (-3). -7) and the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz (-7). -1), even if the number is really important: in total, 21 of the 54 players on the Arab circuit participate in the Asian Tour event. A decision that is mainly based on the need to win the units that allow them to enter the top 50 of the world rankings and thus obtain invitations to one of the four majors. The first of these is the Masters, which begins this April 11.

Of course, the hope of appearing in Augusta is unfavorable, since only three of the LIV players, present in Oman, are among the 100 best on the planet. One of them is Joaquín Niemann, who already has a guaranteed presence in Georgia thanks to a special tournament invitation.
