The golf world is still reeling from the news of the death of Grayson Murray, the 30-year-old golfer who died Friday night after deciding to withdraw from competition at the Charles Schwab Challenge. This Sunday, the family of the American athlete released a statement in which they revealed that Murray himself decided to take his own life.
“We’ve spent the last 24 hours trying to accept that our son is gone. It’s surreal for us to accept it, but also surreal to have to tell the world. It’s a nightmare”Murray’s parents wrote in a note published by the PGA.
“We have so many unanswered questions. Except for one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. For us, for his sister Cameron, for his sister Erica, for his entire family, for his friends, to his fellow golfers and, apparently, to many of their readers?he continued.
“We want to thank the PGA Tour and the entire golf world for the many shows of support. Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests in peace,” he concluded.
