Maria Elcira case: this is what the Limache tunnels look like, where they ask to look for the elderly person

The granddaughter of María Elcira Contreras has asked authorities to search for her grandmother in the Limache tunnels, 16-kilometer underground passages whose entrance is less than 500 meters from where the old woman disappeared.

Maria Elcira Contreras was disappeared . While celebrating Mother’s Day at a restaurant in Limache, the 85-year-old woman said she was going to the bathroom, but after several minutes she did not return to the table. Since then, her family has been desperately searching for her.

“It’s very painful not to know anything about my grandmother, but we also feel as a family that we are in execution, “We are doing everything in our power and more to find her.” said his granddaughter, Carla Hernández, in conversation with ACS .

Having found no trace of the old woman in the nearby canal, Hernández asked the authorities to review a place that had not been considered until now: the underground tunnels of Limache.

These are some 16-kilometer-long underground passages which connect different points of the city and have four entrances: one of them would be less than 500 meters from the Las Tórtolas farm, where María Elcira disappeared.

What do the Limache tunnels look like, where María Elcira Contreras could be?

“My grandmother may have been the victim of a crime, of a kidnapping (…) The issue of the tunnels catches our attention, because we think that there may also be a hiding place of my grandmother. “We want everything thrown away.”

With these words, the granddaughter of the missing elderly woman asked to check the historic tunnels of Limache, to verify that she had not fallen in by mistake or even that she had not been abandoned there by a third party.

The team of CHV News managed to enter part of the tunnels – which are about 1.60 meters high and 1 meter wide, according to ArchDaily – and I took note of what it looks like inside.

For its part, The mayor of Limache, Daniel Morales, previously ruled out that there could be a link between the tunnels and the disappearance of Maria Elcira: “There is a possibility to take a tour. We here at the Eastman House [una casa patrimonial de la comuna] “We have the main access to the tunnels.”

“But clearly, if we analyze it and at the times when it happened, “We could exclude it because Heritage Day was held here.” the mayor said. According to his story, People were able to access and visit the tunnels on May 25 and 26 —a few days after the disappearance of María Elcira— and no one reported any suspicious findings.
