According to the organization that is about to turn 140, the map transformation will take place from December 16, 2024 throughout the country and in Chilean consulates abroad. In the case of the passport, there will also be a digital version.
The initiative aims not only to adopt high-level technologies in these documents, but also to further strengthen security, as they prevent forgeries.
But how exactly will the digital ID card format work?
Here’s how the new digital ID will work
The new identity card includes at least 32 safety measures such as a non-standard font, a photograph on the left side, laser-engraved data and tactile relief. All this to prevent document falsification.
The elements present in the drawing are a transparent copihue in the upper right part, a huemul and two araucarias in the lower part. In the background you can also see the Andes mountain range.

These same characteristics of the card will be reflected in a digital version, which will place Chile at the forefront of identity documents.
According to civil status, The digital ID will be available via a downloadable app on iOS and Android mobile devices. This can be used in both public and private organizations, which will greatly facilitate digital and in-person procedures.
In December, with the inauguration of the new physical card, the digital format will also be available.
Although it is not mandatory for everyone to have this version, it can be useful when you want to do important shopping and do not want to carry a physical card.
