What is the white wind
White wind is defined as “a collection of snow particles lifted from the ground by a sufficiently intense and turbulent wind,” as detailed in the document. International Cloud Atlas of the World Meteorological Organization.
As CHV meteorologist Allison Göhler explains, it is “a wind that moves some of the snow that is falling or has fallen and begins to move it, which generates poor visibility “.
The expert called for calm, explaining that the advice is given so that the population remains alert, but that it is “something recurring in the mountains, completely normal “.
“The white wind will be about 2,000 up. What’s happening is that a tightening of those isobars is also being seen at levels slightly below 1,500. (…) It could be between 800 and 1,500, where it’s the foothills. That’s why it’s going to cover areas like Lo Barnechea, Las Condes, Peñalolén, La Florida, La Reina “, all that foot of the mountain,” he remarked, foreseeing that they would have to wait wind gusts of up to 60 km/h for this area.
