Warning of thunderstorms likely
Meteorology warns of probable electrical storms for the mountainous area of the regions of Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá and Antofagasta .
This information has been in effect since Thursday afternoon and will be extended until Saturday evening October 5 .
At the same time, the northern zone also has a weather alert for high temperature events until this Friday afternoon.
The condition affects the Pampa de Antofagasta and areas of the coastal mountain range, valleys, foothills of the Pampa and Atacama.
Recommendations in the event of an electrical storm
In the event of storms, Senapre recommends that the population consider the following safety measures:
- Stay at home . Do not go out unless absolutely necessary.
- Avoid doing outdoor activities.
- Do not use metal objects like fishing rods, walking sticks, among others, because metals are good electrical conductors.
- Avoid proximity to metal bars wiring and electrical and/or telephone lines.
- If you are in an open field, avoid sheltering under trees .
- Do not come into contact with swimming pools rivers, lakes or sea. Avoid wet areas.
- If you are in a vehicle, stay inside with the engine off without a radio antenna and with the windows closed.
- Turn off cell phones, portable radios and GPS devices.
