The national delegation will be present this weekend in the first tournament of the North American circuit playoffs. While the Talagante man enters the field this Saturday with a -3 card, the Pirque native will do so with a two under par.

The national delegation will be present this weekend in St Jude. Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira both managed to qualify this Friday and secure a place in the definition of the PGA’s first post-season tournament. Pirque will start Saturday with -2 and Talagante with three under par.

The day started with Mito Pereira, who started the first hole at St Jude early in the morning. Helped by an excellent first round, where he closed with -3 on his card, he started calmly and confidently, with the conviction that a good week here, could be the key to his intention to enter the TOUR championship the last event of this playoffs.

And the first feelings were positive. He nailed discounts on the first and fourth flag , opening a card that already seemed to have everything ready to say present on the weekend. But a stage like St Jude is complicated, and on a day with low scores like today, nothing is guaranteed.

A poor pass from the ninth hole left him on the brink of elimination, passing danger with four bogeys in six flags. Punishments that changed everything and even made reach the 18th tee outside the group that was going to make the cut . The positive thing was that in an instance of total drama, Mito managed to get his best repertoire. He landed a terrific approach shot, just five feet from the flag. This allowed him to add another birdie to his account and ensure his presence at the weekend with just the right amount.

Niemann, on the other hand, had a difficult task ahead of him. After a first round where he couldn’t show his best golf, the Chilean arrived this Friday with a card of one over a pair very far from the middle of the board.

But in the face of adversity, he shone. Birdies on holes two, five and six were the first one-day streak that put him back among the best players in the event. After that, he oscillated between discounts and penalties to reach the final stretch of the day directly on the cut. The good thing is that when he said goodbye to TPC Southwind got another birdie which left him three under par overall and well into the group of players who will play on Saturday .

Thus, the two Chileans are still alive in a tournament that will open the PGA playoffs. After St Jude will come the BMW Championship and a week later the TOUR Championship.
