Joaquín Niemann closes the season with his best performance in the Tour Championship before deciding to leave for LIV

The Chilean concluded his participation in the competition with a total card of -13, which places him, for now, in 11th place in the tournament.

Joaquín Niemann said goodbye to the Tour Championship with a final round of joys and sorrows. The Chilean ended his participation in the tournament with a card of the day of -1, which left his aggregate score at -13. His last day in the competition was positive, however, as he improved his numbers from Saturday, when, before the day had to be suspended due to rain, he scored -12. However, it wasn’t enough to stay in the top ten and he finished in 11th place, tied with Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.

The talagantino, in the first place, had to complete the pending holes once the weather caused him to leave the course early. Niemann, back on the field away from the leaders, was on a mission to cut further shots. However, he maintained the Saturday trend, one that required him to have joys and sorrows. In the third round, on the 17th hole, he tripped over a bogey although after that he recovered with a birds to close this collar.

Thus, Joaco came out to face the last day of competition with the aforementioned score of 12. Fighting for the title needed a miracle at the top, beyond what he did on his own. But his work with putt it still lacked efficiency and its performance was less than ideal.

The panorama started uphill for the national. From the start, it was complicated by a bogey which he then repeated at the fifth flag. After that he got his first birds of the day, at hole six. However, couldn’t finish the first game of the day with a smile, as he was forced to use another shot over par on the eight.

Joaco got his revenge. But it wasn’t enough to get closer to the top of the standings. On the 10th hole, he again got a shot over par, only to sign two more later on holes 14 and 18. On a course that cost him too much on Saturday, Joaco felt more confident. ease and sported, at times, its best version. Beyond the fact that the day ended with only -1, following a difficult start. The winner was Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who took advantage of a disastrous day for top seed Scottie Scheffler.

Still, that was enough for Niemann to complete what was his most notable performance to date in the Tour Championship. Along with earning $925,000, he surpassed his starts from previous years, placing in the top 20. Before that, he had only finished 29th and 27th.

For now, it is not excluded that this will be the last time for the man of Talagan on the PGA Tour. As he said himself, he has not yet decided whether or not to go to LIV Golf. Joaquín has expressed his possible departure from the North American circuit to the Saudi super league which seeks to steal all the importance of what, for now, is golf’s highest competition.

“I haven’t made a decision yet,” the Chilean told Golf Channel after Friday’s round ended. He also assured that after this Sunday, he will analyze the opportunity to change the situation. “Obviously there are things I need to see first, but I’m not thinking about that right now. I want to finish the playoffs and then see what my decision will be”, he added. Although those around him say that his departure is already doomed.

Niemann will face key hours before announcing a decision that will shape his future.
