The Chile Classic returns: the prestigious tournament will be part of the Korn Ferry Tour and will award one million dollars in prizes

In March 2023, the fifth edition of the tournament will take place, which returns after eight years of absence. The organization will try to make Mito Pereira the star of the event which will take place at the Prince of Wales Country Club.

National golf continues to grow. To a convulsive year 2022 for the discipline, thanks to the signing of Joaquín Niemann by the LIV and the formidable season of Mito Pereira in the PGA, we must now add the return of the most important tournament that the nation has known. It’s the classic of Chile, event that will return to the golf calendar after eight years of absence and it will be part of the Korn Ferry Tour, gateway to the PGA Tour.

Although the exact dates of the tournament are not yet known, it confirms that the actions will take place in March 2023 on the course of the Prince of Wales Country Club place which hosted the first three editions of the competition.

It is also a fact that the Chile Classic will be an event of the Korn Ferry Tour, giving the event a place of total prestige. Being part of the main development tour of the PGA, makes the Chile Classic a reference in continental golf, since for example during this year 2022, only one event of this tour has taken place in South America, the ‘Astara Golf Championship in Colombia.

In the economic field, El Deportivo has also been able to confirm that the prize pool to be distributed reaches one million dollars, making it the golf tournament that has distributed the most money in the country.

In this way, one of the flagship events of national golf returns and which, in the four years of its realization (between 2012 and 2015), has managed to have great figures of the planet on the courses of Santiago. The most important name on this list is undoubtedly that of Justin Thomas who in 2014 participated in the Chile Classic edition which took place at the Las Arañas stadium. The defending champion of the PGA Championship finished on this occasion in 12th place.

Other important names that participated in the event are Abraham Ancer, Paul Haley II, Adam Hadwin, Tonny Finnau, Dawie van der Walt and Kevin Kisner . The latter was champion of the 2013 edition of the tournament and is currently one of the highest ranked players on the planet, even being part of the Presidents Cup which was played last week.

On the national side, the organization will try to count on the presence of Mito Pereira, who had played in the tournament in 2015 (that year he was playing at CG Mapocho) and would arrive in 2023 as the big Chilean star of the PGA. Joaquín Niemann, on the other hand, will not be able to participate in the event, since after his arrival at LIV Golf he cannot participate in the tournaments organized by the North American tour or in any of its development tours. News that undoubtedly hurts the talagantino, as he was still excited about the return of the tournament to the country.

To formalize the launch of the event, this Thursday, September 29, a press briefing will be held at the Prince of Wales Country Clubinstance in which Alexandra Baldwin, commissioner of the Korn Ferry Tour will be present and one of the most important figures in world golf.
