President of the Continental Hockey League (KHL ) Alexey Morozov said he does not know when the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) will allow the Russian national team to again participate in tournaments under the auspices of the organization.
Previously, the IIHF extended the suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from international competitions for the 2024/25 season. Russian teams are no longer allowed to participate in tournaments under the auspices of the IIHF from 2022. Russia was also deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Championships, which was to be held in St. Petersburg, as well as the Junior World Championships in Omsk and Novosibirsk.
— When will the IIHF allow the team to participate in official tournaments again?
– Hard to say. We do not interact directly with the International Hockey Federation.
– What do you personally think: when will we come back?
— When the situation in the world stabilizes.
— Did Fedorov’s resignation from CSKA surprise you?
– There is a certain surprise in this. What happened there we will never know. This will remain within the team. The man won the Cup two years in a row and became the best coach according to the results of the voting of his colleagues. However, the CSKA leadership decided to take a different path.
Over the past two years, the army has carried out targeted reinforcements. And now, according to media reports, they’re ripe for a reboot. Apparently, they have already chosen a different direction, since they have appointed another coach. Discussions are underway to strengthen the team. As a league, we are apart from personnel decisions within clubs,” Morozov said according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
