Former Severstal hockey player confirmed as head coach of NHL club St. Louis

The head coach “St. Louis Blues” approved Drew Bannister reports the press service of the National Hockey League (NHL) club.

A two-year contract has been signed with the 50-year-old Canadian specialist.

Bannister was named interim head coach of the Blues on December 12, 2023. In 54 regular season games, the team under his leadership scored 65 points, but failed to qualify for the playoffs. Russian attackers Pavel Buchnevich, Nikita Aleksandrov and Alexey Toropchenko play for the Blues.

Bannister spent the last six seasons in the St. Louis system. Before becoming interim head coach, he spent three seasons with the Springfield Thunderbirds, the Blues’ AHL affiliate.

Drew Bannister spent most of his playing career in North America, but later went to play in Europe, including playing three matches for Severstal Cherepovets.
