Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal appeared unhappy after being substituted during his side's 5-0 LaLiga victory at Elche on Sunday.
The 19-year-old was taken off after 65 minutes as Barcelona launched their Spanish league title defence, prompting debate in the Spanish media over his body language and overall happiness.
Speaking on Spanish television sports show El Chiringuito, presenter Josep Pedrerol revealed that club officials plan to address the situation directly with the player.
"I was told at the club that they would ask him about it directly tomorrow, as they had received pictures they hadn't seen before, and they would ask him if everything was alright," Pedrerol said.
Transfer fears over close teammates
However, pundit Jota Jordi believes that Yamal's perceived unhappiness stems from the potential summer departures of three close teammates at Barcelona.
Reports suggest defenders Alejandro Balde and Hector Fort, along with midfielder Marc Casado, could all be sold by Barcelona before the transfer window closes. Balde has recently been linked with a move to English Premier League side Manchester United.
All three players developed through Barcelona's La Masia youth academy alongside Yamal. Jordi emphasised the strong bond between the players, stating: "They're like brothers to him, and I've been told that it hurts Lamine."
Hansi Flick defends substitution decision
Despite the speculation surrounding Yamal's mood, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick dispelled any concerns ahead of Thursday's match against Athletic Bilbao.
Flick explained that the substitution was made due to a physical complaint rather than any tactical or disciplinary issue.
"He had a minor issue, a headache. Lamine is a genius, it's understandable. He's had three weeks off and has only trained a few days. It's normal that he's not at his peak," Flick told reporters.
The German coach praised Yamal's contribution during his time on the pitch, where he helped set up Barcelona's opening goals before being replaced.
"We need to find a solution so he can get back to his best, but I really value his 60 minutes. He pressed very well on the first goal and on the second he passed the ball to Raphinha. He gives us more options. He helped us a lot and he's doing well. We'll see how he progresses, but we need him because he's exceptional," Flick added.
Ambition and title pursuit
Flick also insisted that it is completely natural for a player of Yamal's calibre to react with disappointment when taken off early.
"It's normal that he wants to play. When you're a true champion, you always strive to win the next title," the manager said.
Addressing Barcelona's targets for the season, Flick highlighted the collective hunger within the squad as they pursue further domestic success.
"That's his attitude. Every player on the team is hungry to win a third consecutive league title. We're ready and we'll fight for it," Flick stated.
