Manchester City has rejected a 40 million pound (around 274.7 million Brazilian reais) offer from Barcelona for midfielder Rodri, according to a report published by Sky Sports on Friday. The English club considered the proposal from the Catalan side too low.
City leaders are asking for 60 million pounds (approximately 412.1 million reais) for the 30-year-old player. Barcelona is expected to submit a new offer for the midfielder in the coming days.
Rodri is also targeted by Real Madrid, but he has indicated a preference for a transfer to Barcelona. Manchester City wants to renew the contract of the Spain national team captain, but the club will not prevent his departure if the number 16 requests a move.
Manchester City target for replacement
Manchester City is already scanning the market for a replacement if the deal with Barcelona is completed in the coming days. Sky Sports reported that midfielder Enzo Fernández, currently playing for Chelsea, is the dream target for City manager Enzo Maresca.
Fernández has a contract with London club Chelsea until 2032 and is valued by the team at around 120 million pounds (824 million reais). Maresca and Fernández previously worked together at Chelsea.
