Marc Márquez had to settle for seventh place in the British Grand Prix of MotoGP. His optimistic target had been fifth, and in the end reality placed him further back, in the position he had realistically expected.

Márquez said the bike had worked well on Sunday and the tire too, but that he had not been able to get more out of the situation. He said an optimistic result would have been fifth, and they finished seventh, which was within realistic plans, so that was fine, speaking to Dazn with a more serious expression than usual.

A self-critical weekend

Looking back on the three days in England, Márquez was self-critical about the situation. He said it had been a good weekend in which they had taken small steps forward, and while it was true the results had not been good, he personally had been fine.

His deficit to the championship lead, held and extended by Jorge Martín, grew from 18 to 40 points. Asked whether that gap could change significantly at the next round in Aragon, Márquez said his conclusion remained the same as he had been repeating: they need to improve if they want to fight for the championship. He said their current position had come about thanks to rivals' mistakes, but that they needed to be more consistent at circuits that are difficult for them and try to capitalize at the ones where they feel strong. He said Silverstone had been difficult for them and that they had paid too heavy a penalty there, referring to the 22 points conceded to "Martinator."

No clear favorite, Márquez says

Asked whether he remained the favorite or was trying to play down expectations, Márquez responded with some irony, saying something like "come on, man" to the idea that he was still the favorite. He clarified that right now there is no favorite in this championship, which he described as the most even in recent times, with Aprilia dominating at many circuits.
