Masseur Details Maradona's Final Days in Court

Diego Maradona's masseur, Nicolás Taffarel, testified in court about the final days of the Argentine footballer's life, according to AFP.

Taffarel told the hearing that the day before Maradona died, he barely got out of bed and suffered from severe swelling. Maradona refused to eat, did not want to leave his room, and would not wash or attend to his personal hygiene, Taffarel said.

Taffarel said he tried to persuade Maradona to get up and drink mate, but Maradona told him he did not want anything.

Warnings about swelling

Taffarel also said he had raised concerns with the medical team about swelling in Maradona's legs. He said Maradona's legs had swollen badly, but doctors assured him the symptoms would pass. No improvement in Maradona's condition followed, Taffarel said.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60. The cause of death was acute heart failure that led to pulmonary edema.
