Mike Tyson believes David Benavidez would defeat Oleksandr Usyk if the American moves up to heavyweight for a clash between undefeated champions. The legendary boxer told fight.24tv.ua that a matchup between Benavidez and the 39-year-old Usyk would be a great spectacle.
Usyk holds a career record of 25 wins and zero losses, with victories over Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Dereck Chisora. Benavidez, known as the Mexican Monster, has won all 32 of his fights and holds the WBA and WBO belts in the cruiserweight category. Tyson said both men are fast and intelligent, but he would back Benavidez because he is younger and throws more punch combinations, despite calling Usyk an incredible boxer.
Potential Opponents for Farewell Fight
Usyk is approaching the end of his career and plans to stage a farewell fight. Turki Al-Sheikh previously expressed interest in organizing a bout between Usyk and Benavidez, though recent discussions have focused more on a potential clash with Deontay Wilder.
Boxing trainer Dominic Ingle said a fight with Wilder would be a great spectacle because Wilder lands power punches while Usyk can fight through them. Ingle noted that Usyk is almost 40 years old and will slow down at some point, but added that Usyk could produce a spectacular knockout if he lands on Wilder. Agit Kabayel and Moses Itauma have also been named as potential candidates to face Usyk.
