Another international federation followed the lead of the International Olympic Committee.
Athletes from aggressor countries continue to be allowed to participate in international competitions. It will be remembered that in such an appeal the International Olympic Committee first appealed to the federations.
At this time, the Council of the World Taekwondo Federation held an extraordinary meeting, where it was decided to allow the Russians and Belarusians to compete on a neutral basis.
“The Council reaffirms its calls for peace and solidarity with the Olympic community in Ukraine. World Taekwondo will continue to support Ukrainian athletes in ensuring their participation in taekwondo competitions.
After discussion, the Council decided to allow the participation of individual neutral athletes and support personnel with Russian and Belarusian passports in the World Taekwondo Championships starting with the World Championships in Baku 2023 at the end of May.
The decision on the participation of individual neutral athletes and support personnel with Russian and Belarusian passports in other competitions not organized by World Taekwondo will be made after the World Championship in Baku.
The Council also approved the establishment of a Review Committee and Review Process to ensure the strict neutrality of individual Athletes and Support Personnel who will compete.
The three-step review process includes review by the Member National Association and Continental Union, followed by individual verification of athletes and support staff before final review and approval by the Audit Committee.
The participation of any neutral athletes in international taekwondo competitions will be conducted in accordance with clear principles and rules established by the IOC Executive Board.
