Sudakov: Some might say that losing 1:2 away to Barcelona is a good result. But we felt that we could do much more

According to Shakhtar’s leader, the team is disappointed by the defeat from the grandee of world football

Midfielder Shakhtar Georgy Sudakov shared his impressions after his team’s defeat in an away match Champions League With Barcelona.

“Disappointed. Because they lost. One hundred percent – we always play to win. And today, especially in the second half, we felt that we could do much more. We could score a second goal, there were chances. We understand that Barcelona is Barcelona, and it’s difficult to play away. And maybe we got knocked down by two goals in a short period.”

“In the first half, not everything worked out. In the second, the coach adjusted what needed to be done. And things began to work out better – they scored a goal and there was still half an hour to equalize the score. There were good moments, but we didn’t take advantage of them.”

“Adjustments [в перерыве] Pusic contributed, he led the game today, and Dario gave a little advice. But all the emphasis was done by the coach. The adjustments concerned the construction. Stepanenko and Bondarenko dropped low, we needed to play higher, and we started to have zones. We started to come out through Matvienko and Azarov, through long passes and played more forward.”

“Honestly, everyone went into the locker room disappointed. Some might say that a 2:1 draw away from Barcelona is a good result. But we felt that we could do much more. It’s a pity that we lost, and we understand how difficult the tournament situation is now. But we will continue to move forward and are already preparing for the next matches.”
