Athletistic/Chess. Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi (rating – 2778), playing with black pieces, was defeated in the third round of the World Rapid Championship in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) by Sergei Grigoryants (rating 2493).
In the second round, the classical chess vice-world champion drew against 15-year-old Kazakh chess player Ernur Amangeldy (ranked 2012).
The World Rapid Chess Championship will take place in Samarkand from December 26 to 30. The rapid competition will take place on December 26 and 28 and the blitz competition on December 29 and 30.
