“A year ago, I thought about ending my career. As a partner, it was nothing” – figure skater Vilchik

Figure skater Vladislav Vilchik, skating in pairs with Anastasia Chernyshova said he considered ending his professional career a year ago.

On Thursday, Chernyshova and Vilchik became third in the pair sports competition at the Russian Grand Prix final among juniors. They obtained 170.05 points based on the sum of the two programs.

“It was particularly difficult for me during these departures. We didn’t imagine it was possible not to lose a single start this season. My goal for this season after breaking up with my last partner was to become the number one couple. We felt like we became a couple after the triple elements. It became clear in what mood Vlad was skating. I didn’t know what kind of competitors there would be when I teamed up with Vlad. But I knew that the strongest would leave, for example the Osokina/Gritsaenko, Chikmareva/Yanchenkov couples,” reports the correspondent of , reporting Chernyshova’s words.

— It’s mentally tough after the Russian championship, when you take first place, you have to keep the bar, we’re going to work on it. The bar was high after the first stage of the Grand Prix: we realized we could do it. We were already mentally exhausted for the Russian Championship, we prepared very hard and played very well. It was already a bit difficult here. It’s okay, we’ll install a new program and improve things.

I came to Moscow for one reason: I wanted to realize myself. A year ago I wanted to quit sport completely, I didn’t have a partner and I was partnered for nothing. Then I changed teams and things went much better. Nastya gave me leadership qualities. First impression of Nastya? Such a feisty girl,” Vilchik noted.

The tournament takes place in Sochi from March 13 to 15.
