Athletistic/Swimming. Famous TV presenter and commentator Dmitry Guberniev shared his opinion regarding the refusal of 19-year-old swimmer Evgenia Chikunova to participate in the 2024 Olympics in a conversation with Sport Express.

“I’m sorry that this happened. I respect this choice, the federation makes the decision itself. I hope that the athletes will make their own decisions. But, as was said in my favorite film by Nikita Mikhalkov ” Burnt by the Sun”, when the hero of Alexander Kaidanovsky says to the hero Yuri Bogatyreva: “This only happens once! Only once in a lifetime!…Go away, don’t be a moron!”

But that’s just a quote from a movie, and in real life, the guys have made up their minds, and I hope they know what they’re doing. However, I would like to emphasize once again that Chikunova’s time is unfortunately limited. We don’t know if she will be in good shape in 4 years, we’ll see, but now all hopes rest on Efimova, she did not refuse to participate. I will not change my mind, I will support those who go there and I respect the decisions of other athletes,” Guberniev commented in an interview with Sport-Express.

In April 2023, at the Russian Championships, the athlete set a world record in the 200 meter breaststroke (2 minutes 17.55 seconds).

  • World record holder Chikunova officially announced that she will miss the Paris Olympics
